Kolamba founders Eroshan and Aushi Meewella will open Kolamba East in Spitalfields this spring, following the Soho original which opened in 2019. The second restaurant will showcase Sri Lankan home cooking and focus on the dishes Eroshan and Aushi enjoyed as children, with recipes that from the communities of Sinhalese, Tamil, Moor, Burger (Dutch) and Malay descent, all of whom have made a big imprint on Colombo, the Sri Lankan capital.
The 92-cover space will feature street food snacks, hoppers, sambols and larger dishes to share, as well as a separate cocktail bar, a new addition to the Kolamba brand.
The look will be similar to the original site, which won best interiors at the GQ Food & Drink Awards in 2021 and celebrates the Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa, who pioneered the tropical modernism movement.
