Opening on 28th March in London’s Charlotte Street, Vijay’s Bar & Lounge will offer a “innovative” cocktails and Indian-style bar snacks. Located above the Indian restaurant Lokhandwala and inspired by an infamous Mumbai gangster Vijay, the “intimate venue” and outdoor terrace will offer cocktail lovers an “elusive drinking den in the heart of Fitzrovia.”
With “atmospheric dark walls, rich fabrics and opulent detail,” Vijay’s Lounge & Bar aims to provide a “haven for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the streets below,” with an impressively stocked bars framed by an “eye-catching bronze chandelier.” Details such as oil paintings and a “striking” silver elephant, nod towards the venue’s Indian culture. The twenty-five capacity room leads on to a hidden outdoor terrace, for alfresco drinking in summer months.
Vijay’s Bar & Lounge is insopired by the story of Lady Charlotte, s secret scandals that rocked Victorian British aristocracy. The tale goes back to the 1800s of the Lokhandwala district of Mumbai, where Lady Charlotte fell in love with the promiscuous outlaw Vijay. He left Charlotte with a broken heart and shattered dreams of marriage. She fled to London.
The drinks menu includes high quality champagnes and Japanese whiskies. Cocktails are priced at £12, use floral syrups, fennel seed, star anise, fresh coriander, rose and lavender syrup.
Open 5 pm to midnight, Tuesday to Sunday.
