The owners of York-based Indian restaurant Coconut Lagoon are to open a second in the city. Saji and Sminy Kurian will open Kalpakavadi at a site in Fossgate, formerly occupied by St Pauls Bookshop. The 2,000 square foot unit is currently being refitted following a major investment.
Kalpakavadi means “land of coconuts” and the restaurant will feature Kerala cuisine.
Saji Kurian said the opportunity to add to the restaurant they opened in Clarence Street six years ago was one they couldn’t resist, “The importance of Fossgate in the city’s food offer and its obvious vibrancy could not be ignored.”
