Chef, restaurateur and author Tommy Miah has criticised MPs over the “terrible restrictions” placed on Bangladeshi chefs working in Indian restaurants in the UK.
Workers from Bangladesh make up 90% of chefs in the UK’s Indian restaurants.
Regulations state they need to earn almost £30,000pa to qualify for a visa, a rule Miah branded as “ridiculous in the context of Brexit and how it might affect the hospitality industry”.
He said: “In the UK we are so lucky to have such a rich cultural diversity and the Indian restaurants that form a large part of the culinary scene here are paramount to this.”
