National Curry Week launch for online publication
Founded and published in print by the late Pat Chapman between 1984 and 2013, the Good Curry Guide will reappear for the first time in 12 years, this time online www.GoodCurryGuide.net.
Pat’s former friend and colleague George Shaw has announced that he is to revive the Guide in time for National Curry Week, 7th to 13th October.
The Guide is being published dynamically, allowing for constant additions, deletions and updates.
“Pat was a dear friend, always great company, a true gentleman and a pioneer in bringing a love of all things spice to the British.
A fellow judge of numerous curry awards, Shaw had the honour of collecting a special award on Pat’s behalf when he was too ill to attend the Asian Curry Awards in person, saying, “Everyone who works in the curry sector owes Pat a huge debt and never has a Lifetime Achievement Award so been richly deserved.”
Curry lovers and restaurateurs will be able to nominate restaurants for inclusion at www.GoodCurryGuide.net.
The Guide will have free basic entries, chef profiles, reviews and news. The publication will be financed by advertising, sponsorship and with the ability for select restaurants to pay for enhanced entries.
Shaw says although there are many general online restaurant guides with customer recommendations, they are subject to abuse by restaurant owners, jealous rivals and disgruntled ex-employees.
Shaw said: “There are now more curry awards than you can shake a chapati at. Some decidedly average curry houses receive top accolades whilst Michelin-starred venues go unnoticed and there is a remarkable correlation between those that pay for large tables at award ceremonies and the eventual winners. Entries in the Guide are by invitation and earned on merit.”
